Our Recovery Meeting Scripture

There is a scripture that seems to pertain directly to the success of our weekly Addiction Recovery Meetings.

That scripture is found in D&C 88:122

Appoint among yourselves a teacher,
(missionaries and facilitators)

and let not all be spokesmen at once;
(take turns reading the assigned weekly step)

but let one speak at a time and let all listen unto his sayings,
(3-5 minutes each with no cross-talk)

that when all have spoken that all may be edified of all,
(the spirit will enlighten all who participate)

and that every man may have an equal privilege.
(even the shyest person is given the opportunity to share his thoughts)

I know that those who attend these meetings feel that they are some of the most spiritual meeting held in the Church.  It has been said that Christ, when he appears, could just as easily appear in one of these meetings and feel comfortable.

The format of the meeting helps maintain the reverence and spirit needed so badly by those who attend.  It is almost impossible for the meeting to be led off on a tangent, since those sharing are not to comment on what any other person is saying.  Because the time for each person is limited, no one person is able to dominate.

What great insight! Thank you for sharing! I was in a group that did not follow the program and it was chaos and focused on one member way too much. I love the script and the format. It is wisdom and order!

Cool connection. I know I've read that verse, but probably not since I started attending meetings. I wonder what else would strike me differently on a read-through of the scriptures. Thanks for sharing.
