Prayers of Gratitude

I have heard the suggestion from several different sources that we should, at times, give a prayers of gratitude.  In other words don't ask for anything--just give thanks.  After all Heavenly Father already knows what we need.

So I have tried doing that at times. Yes, it's really hard to do. But I feel so good afterwards. Let me be honest, it's difficult for me to avoid asking for blessings. Of course, I don't always ask for things for myself, but I usually ask Heavenly Father to bless lots of other people.

Recently I have tired to only give thanks in my nightly prayer and then go back to my normal mode first thing in the morning or any other time during the day.

Here is a scripture that backs this idea up:

"Behold, my beloved brethren, remember the words of your God; pray unto him continually by day, and give thanks unto his holy name by night."

2 Nephi 9:52

P.S. I always give a prayer of gratitude when I recognize a tender mercy in my life!
