A Conversion Story *

I used to think commandments were just rules made by totalitarians designed to usurp my agency, and restrict my freedom. And then I gave the commandments a chance and followed them. (To be fair the bishop said I had to for a year, in other words, repent, before I could even think about serving. He nearly had a panic attack when I told him I wanted to go on a mission). In all honesty, though it was the best year of my life. It was the first year I didn't have to go to court for getting in trouble with the law, and it was the first year I wasn't a slave to addiction.

And I learned right away how wrong I was, in thinking commandments were constrictive in their nature and acted as deterrents of our freedom. When ironically it turned out to be the exact opposite. I can testify to you as a personal witness that they were given to us by an all-knowing God in the defense of our freedom and protection from enslavement by our carnal cravings and unholy desires. It was through obeying our Heavenly Father's commandments that I became the best version of myself I, and the world around me, has ever known.
